Raeth, God of Mischief and Trickery.

Raeth was a likeable rogue who traveled with Erryn Surehand on his travels. He was said to have tricked Rothgar into letting him enter his abode, where he stole the broken sword 'Enydd', annan for Fury, which was reforged to make the spearhead of Erryn's spear 'Cewyr'.

Raeth, God of Mischief and Trickery, is rarely worshipped by law-abiding citizens. Thieves, rogues and cut-purses offer their thanks to the god before and after their endeavours. There are a few churches in Pendaran where the 'Families' exert their control. In many cities, the underground will pay a tithe of it's earnings to the church.

There are no formal training centres for priests of Raeth. Applicants must approach a priest and make an offering at the temple. Raeth's priests are materialistic and generally the more expensive the offering the greater chance that the priest will accept the applicant.

The church of Raeth has a simple organisation. Trainee priests are called Applicants, their apprenticeship can last for years. The Applicant is responsible for looking after their trainers well-being. A priest will only have one Applicant at a time, training them as their replacement. Many Applicants grow tired of waiting for their teachers to retire and abandon their positions. These are known as Leavers and there are dozens across the realms. Upon the death or resignation of their trainer, the Applicant gains the simple rank of Priest. There is only one rank above the Priests, that of the Silent Hand.

Priests of Raeth wear dark blue, hooded robes. At all times outside their temple precincts they wear masks made of black silk. Applicants wear the same robes but with white masks. The Silent Hand has never been seen by anyone other than priests of Raeth. The priests wear a holy symbol in the shape of a hand, about six inches long and made of silver.

Despite it's negative appearance, many adventures and sailors will make offerings to Raeth before an expedition to ward off an attack of the gremlins.
