Erryn was a great Tamaraith hero responsible for slaying the dragon Rothgar and ending his domination over the Tamaraith Highlands. His priests are superb warriors, who believe that combat is the ultimate expression of strength and prowess.
The Church of Erryn has a rigid military structure. Errynites are warriors, trained for combat, not peace. There are no paladins of Erryn, only their warrior-priests. The best of them train alongside the Paladins of Orloth at Eldridge while most are trained at the Military Academy in Calador, where the church is based.
Advancement in the church is based on military experience and rank. The lowest are the Soldiers of Erryn. Initial training is designed to train the fledgling priests to an equal skill level and takes as long as is necessary. They are trained primarily in weapon skills, but they are also required to learn basic healing skills, tactical skills and military organisation. After training, they are required to serve a minimum five years as a mercenary, either in one of the Erryn sponsored companies or a private company.
At the end of the five years, they are free to do as they please. Many travel as adventurers or form their own mercenary companies. Experienced priests have also hired themselves out as military advisors to rulers. To advance in the church hierarchy, the candidate must have had an extensive military career. Experience and tactical ability always dictate the selection process. The church is governed by a council of Generals. There is no fixed number, between ten and thirty may be serving at any one time.
There are no specific uniforms for followers of Erryn. Most prefer to use comfortable, utilitarian clothes which can be worn in combat as well as peaceful times. The only requirement for a priest of Erryn is that the must train to use the spear in memory of Erryn's defeat over the Elder Dragon Rothgar. They also wear the holy symbol of Erryn, a small silver spear about three inches long.
Avatars.
- The Warrior - The Warrior is an average looking man, dressed in armour and bearing weapons of cheap manufacture. He is not an officer or a soldier but appears to be a conscript, an average man of the street. He is bleeding from many wounds and seems ready to drop. He is often surrounded on all sides by the bodies of his comrades and beyond them his enemies. The vision shows that heroism and the strength to succeed can be found in all of us, even those not used to war. It can often mean that aid will be coming from an unexpected source and at first we may not recognise it.
